Who doesn’t love the warm days of summer when the sun is shining bright? This is a time for being outdoors, a time to gather with family and friends for outdoor barbecues and weekend getaways.
Whether you are in your 20′s or 40′s, aging skin does not have to dampen your summer spirits. Here are some tips for skin to keep you looking and feeling great all summer long.
Respect the sun. Being in the sun is the best way to get vitamin D and it is a natural mood enhancer. But the strong rays can damage skin and lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots. Always cover your skin with sunscreen while outdoors. do this even on cloudy days as UV rays still penetrate clouds. Reapply frequently, especially after swimming or sweating.
Wear sunglasses. This protects your eyes from the sun’s rays. Wearing a wide brimmed hat when outdoors is also a great way to keep direct sunlight out of your eyes. It also keeps your head in the shade and helps cool you down.
Drink plenty of water. It’s easy to forget yourself and go without fluids when you’re outdoors on a bright sunny day. But this can be dangerous, as the body needs fluids to remain in electrolyte balance. Prevent dehydration by carrying water with you when you’re out of doors. Remember- hydrated skin is healthy skin. It is dewy and luminous, so drink your water and plenty of it!
Give yourself a healthy glow. Just because you shun the sun to protect your skin doesn’t mean you can’t rock a beautiful tan. Apply sunless tanner to your arms, legs, shoulders and face. Add the sunless tanner in thin layers so you can control how bronze you want to be and also make sure your tan is even. Remember to continue to wear sunscreen even with your tan, as you still need the UV protection.
Moisturize. After a day of sun and fun, it’s important to slather on the lotion. Moisturizing your skin regularly goes a long way towards helping it retain its youthful appearance. Pay special attention to skin around the eyes, your neck, chest area, elbows and knees. These areas are some of the first to get fine lines and lose elasticity, so lotion up. Apply moisturizer at night and every morning after you shower.
Use these simple beauty tips to help make your skin look its very best this summer. Now get outside and have some fun in the sun!
